Why Candle Size Matters for
Scenting a Room

When it comes to filling your space with fragrance, size actually does matter. A candle's ability to scent a room is influenced by its diameter, the type of wax used, and the size of the space you're trying to fill. A small candle might be perfect for a bathroom or small office, but it likely won’t do the job in a large living room.

The key term here is "melt pool" — the liquid layer of wax that forms around the wick as the candle burns. A larger melt pool means more fragrance is released into the air. Candles with wider diameters create a bigger melt pool, which allows for a stronger scent throw. On the flip side, a small candle with a narrow diameter will have a much more contained scent.

To maximize your experience, match the candle size to your space. For larger rooms, opt for candles 3" in diameter or more, or consider burning two candles at once for even distribution. This way, your favorite scent doesn’t get lost in the air.
